Story Behind The Simple Fudge
I grew up in Bataan, Philippines, where my family owned a small bakery and café called "Matamis na Tahanan" (Sweet Home). As a child, I loved watching my grandmother make fudge and would always sneak pieces when no one was looking. By the time I was 12, I was helping in the kitchen, learning how to make the perfect fudge.
Our family bakery was loved in our community for 27 years. I even went to culinary school to learn more about making sweets and brought back new ideas to our shop. We became known for our special fudge that mixed traditional Filipino flavors like ube (purple yam) and calamansi (Philippine lime) with classic recipes.
When COVID-19 hit in 2020, our bakery couldn't survive the lockdowns, and we had to close permanently. It was heartbreaking to lose our family business.
During the pandemic, I started making fudge at home to cope with stress. I shared my creations with friends and family through contactless delivery. Everyone was surprised that I could make such delicious fudge with basic kitchen equipment and simple ingredients.
People kept asking, "How do you make fudge so good without fancy tools?" This gave me an idea. In June 2020, I created "The Simple Fudge" – a business with two goals: selling homemade fudge and sharing easy recipes that anyone could make in their own kitchen.
I started with a simple Instagram page, offering delivery in our province. To my surprise, orders came in from all over the Philippines. People loved that my fudge brought comfort during difficult times, and many asked for recipes so they could make it themselves.
As word spread, I began posting tutorials and tips online. In 2022, a culinary school in Manila invited me to teach virtual fudge-making workshops. Later that year, a food magazine featured my story of turning our family's fudge tradition into a successful online business during the pandemic.
Today, The Simple Fudge has grown from just selling fudge to becoming a place where people can learn to make their own. Every recipe on this site has been tested many times to make sure it works in any home kitchen.
My grandmother always said fudge making needs both exact measurements and a feeling for the process. Through The Simple Fudge, I hope to honor her by making great fudge accessible to everyone, no matter how much cooking experience they have.
Welcome to my sweet journey. I'm happy you're here!
